Power draw of Heat pump

Does using the heat pump setting to cool draw less power than the regular ac? (My 2000w rated Wen generator starts and briefly runs the AC, but soon overloads it.
Thanks!

    As there is a single compressor and a reversing valve for cooling or heating, I suspect that the draw would be similar in either heating or cooling mode. But heating is less load than cooling per the Dometic site chart. I can say I have not run mine on a generator. Specs say the 2000W gen is too small. I guess the Soft Start helps with smaller generators.

    The generator doesn't skip a beat when I turn on the heat pump to cool, but the air coming out of the vents just seemed to be moving the air in the trailer around, not actually cooling it.

    @Gkopan
    I've found that it takes a while for the compressor to kick in. Until it does the AC only pushes air through the vents. How long have you waited before giving up?
