A Little Bit of Winter Camping

I had a conference in Hershey (you know, that chocolate town) a few weeks ago and stayed in the T@B for the few nights I was there.
Originally I was going to stay at the HersheyPark Campground. We stayed there a few years ago and had a nice experience, but they had doubled their price since then. Sorry, but $65 a night for a campsite with electric and nothing else open in the campground is a bit steep for me, even here on the East Coast where nearly all camping is expensive.
Instead, I headed out to Twin Grove RV Park. I had been there before, but not to camp. Twin Grove used to be an amusement park, and I caught it in its waning days as it had shut down and everything was being auctioned off. Now it is a very nice campground that happens to feature a carousel and ferris wheel.

The difference a few years makes.
It was snowing when I pulled into the very empty campground, but they had plowed my site, and with electric the T@Bpole stayed nice and warm all weekend, even with a low of 18° on Saturday night. Just a space heater and electric blanket did the trick. It is a very nice, clean, and in the off season, quiet campground. There was a steam running by my site and the only noise I heard at night was the trickling of the water over the rocks.
I guess what I am really getting at is don't be discouraged by cold, snow and ice, if you have the time, make the most of it and get out there. It is great to camp anytime of the year.

I go out to the storage shed and sit in mine and dream every once in a while. Does that count? Of course, because it's so close I'm constantly messing with the mechanicals or decoration or whatever...
