Electric Brakes

I have mechanical surge brakes on my 2006 T@B and someone suggested to me recently that I should investigate replacing them with electric brakes which I believe come standard on new trailers.  Has anyone done this conversion and if so, have you found it worth while?

    I see this is an old post but did you switch to electric and did it work?
