"Bad" speakers?

Has anyone had issues with their speakers - MAJOR crackling/distortion? Mine are terrible and while visiting family in Ridgway, CO, I had my brother listen (he's a musician) as I thought perhaps it was the wiring. He doesn't think it's the wiring and  I have a set of "bad" speakers and they should be replaced. I emailed Ed at the factory but wondered if anyone else has had this issue.

From what I recall, previous issues have not necessarily been with the wiring/speakers but with shielding at the head unit.

I don't have the media package so can't look but would guess that it shouldn't be hard to pull a speaker (few screws) and hook it to a different source.

Well that went over my head "shielding at the head unit" - do you mean some kind of "padding" that should go between the front of the speakers and where they meet at the wood with the screws?

The "head unit" is the Jensen. The wiring behind the unit needed shielding as it was picking up static from somewhere. Can't recall the details on what the source was or how it was shielded as I don't have one.
As mentioned though, you can remove a speaker and see if it works if hooked up to a different sound source. If ok there, the problem is somewhere else.

Ah, okay...heard back from Elsie and she is sending me new speakers. Will try one and see if it makes a difference. If not, like you said, then the problem is elsewhere. Hope it's a simple fix :)
