Holiday Project - Making a Table Top for My Lagun Mount

Thanks to the great ideas from this site, I decided to buy a Lagun table mount for my t@b, and I also decided to make my own table top instead of buying one.  Thought I would share.  I started out with a piece of rough cut big leaf maple that I had bought a couple of years ago from a terrific lumber store out on the Olympic Peninsula (Washington Coast).  At the time I was visiting the store they were milling their own stock from the local tree sources.   but that visit is a story within itself.

so here's what I started with:

It was 2 inch stock so I took it to the local hardwood supply store in town, that provides re-sawing services, and for a few bucks they re-sawed it into to 1 inch stock.

I did the rest of the work with my own tools at home.

I used some Red Oak from Home depot to frame the table, and glued it up.

I finished it with Danish Oil, and wood workers wax.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy how it turned out. The only thing I would do differently would be to stain the oak frame pieces to a little darker color before gluing it up. to make it pop more, but it's not bad for the first try.

25" X 29"   The table will be used when we make up the bed (I installed rails for the table to rest on), but to keep the weight down I decided not to go with the full size of the old table, and use a slat to fill in where the table leaves off (if I remember right it'll need to be something like 5"X29" I'll let you know once I finished that part of the project). I'll figure out a storage spot for it under the drivers side bench compartment. I'll probably have to make a removable shelf or something over the wiring and plumbing that lives in that space to protect it, and allow me a little more storage space. I think I saw an earlier post where someone had done something similar.

Very well done. I also like where you mounted the Lagun mount; does it get in the way at all for anyone sitting on that side of the bench?

Thank you, no it doesn't, because it can swivel and be easily adjusted. I find it's easier to get in and out of the seats then it was with the original table.

Looks great.  Any chance that lumber store was in Quilcene?  Seen some great pieces there.

Had to look it up, couldn't remember the name, it's in Port Townsend the name of the store is Edensaw Woods. If you Google it you can find their website.  Not sure if they are milling their own stuff anymore, but if you go and are a wood worker, take a dinner napkin cuz you will drool a lot when looking through their inventory.

Very nice work.  We are probably going with lagun mount and will have to think about a table size.  Also might go to the twin bed idea.   

Btw,  if that is your workshop, I'm extremely jealous...

Did you buy your Lagun mount from the teardrop shop?  Someone said you can order direct from the factory and pay a bit less...

Thank you, no I bought it online from a company in England, it was cheaper than teardrop shop, and only took about 4-5 days to be delivered.  Here is the thread where I got the suggestion

Better late than never, I finally finished cutting the bed slats needed to use the table as part of the bed make up. Just in time for the east meets west Washington event at Lincoln Rock next week.

@j_ntabowners i' d love to say yes but, no. It's a Farberware $20 bamboo cutting board from WM, flipped over. I wanted wood and something that looked nice. It's also not as long as the original which we found gives us more manuvering room. I've kept the original, but don't like the look.

Love all of these upgrades!  Our maiden voyage got postponed due to Irma, so I decided to get some interior changes done that I had planned on doing later this fall.  I'm keeping with the theme of TikiBarT@b and had a few pallets lying around, so I decided to make this little table.  Also made some "beachy" slip covers for the sofa.  The table is a little bit bigger than the factory one (perfect for a 4 person game of Holdem!).  I like that it can be moved around easily thanks to the Lagun mount...horizontal or vertical slats, depending on my mood!  I would love to replace the galley counter top with the same look, but not sure my skills are up to that one.
