Loud Water Pump

Dewinterized today and sanitized my fresh water tank. Everything seems to work - got hot water but man is my water pump loud - Is it really supposed to be this loud and inconsistent? Sounds like it's going to throw a rod with all the banging and knocking. The Alde pump is so quiet, this doesn't seem right.

I have a recording but the forum evidently doesn't handle mp3 files.

That IS loud. Have you checked to see if there is something vibrating underneath? Doesn't sound normal to me.

judymac - Going to dig into it today but all the noise is from the water pump area. Was getting dark by the time I got everything sanitized and finally turned on. It's loud enough that it'd wake the neighbors - at least sounds that way when standing inside.

PXLated, that is exactly how loud my pump is. I have wondered if it was normal. I had read that there were some faulty pumps out there.

Our pump is quite loud as well. The sound may be more of a steady clatter than yours. Would try it but we already have the battery pulled waiting to go into storage tomorrow. :((

It's actually louder than the recording - I still can't believe it should be loud at all - I've been in friends trailers and while you can hear the pump kick in it isn't a banging, clattering noise. Sounds like when you have a loose water pipe in a house that bangs around when turned on/off.

Been tied up all day so haven't gotten back to checking it.

Maybe the pump's mount's are loose or not mounted at all. Could be a manufacturing oversight. That does sound strange. Mine makes what I would call the normal noise based on other RV's I have owned. I can tell mine dose not have an accumulator in the line since it turns on and off instead of a running steady. If it does then I too have a problem.

I remember reading somewhere that the water pump has an adjustment screw to regulate pressure.

You might try decreasing the pressure to see if it has any impact on the noise level.

Call Ed..they installed a bad batch of pumps and replaced ours for free.

I don't know if this is relevant to your situation, but if my fresh water tank is low, the water pump makes a similar noise.  If the tank is full, the noise seems to go away.  May be because of air in the line, and when the pump is sucking air instead of water, it makes the banging sound.

Rzrbug - That may be it - air in the lines as it was the first time it was filled. - Had to empty the tank as it still had some bleach from the sanitation and haven't been near a fresh water supply again yet so haven't been able to refill and check.

The factory installed a new pump for me. Going to try it out today.

Mine quieted down once in use more than that first 2-3 times.

On my trip last week, I let the tank get low at one point, and the hammering sound occurred again.  When I refilled the tank and let it run a bit, the sound went away.
