CS galley hatch lock near miss

Halfway on our journey we discovered the hatch was only secured with one lock.  We opened the hatch and found the cam laying on the floor of the galley.  The set screw to the cam had loosened.  We purchased a tiny Allen wrench and repaired it today.  One more thing for the checklist!

@SAM Thanks for the heads up. There are some reports of hatches opening while on the road....will add this to checklist. Maybe some Loctite is in order?

Yes, we used Loctite, too.  I tried to search for the other documented hatch openings without success.  Can't remember their issue.  This was an easy fix!

Good thing I checked before we departed after changing drivers.  Those little last minute checks helped.

The "fix" I used on my Silver Shadow's galley hatch was to add washers under the catch on the galley floor. I always kept some small ones on hand so I could adjust as needed.

Verna, was it the same type latch?

Same type of handle and set screw holding the "paddle". I haven't seen a photo of your floor attachment.

@SAM, that is the same "handle" used in the Silver Shadow hatches.

Be careful which grade of Loctite you use as you may need the ability to replace parts in the future if needed and some of the variants are permanent when applied.
I had to chuckle because it brought back some memories of Gasoline Alley down in Indy.  Some of the mechanics were jokers and would take quarters, apply loctite glue to them and stick them on the metal grates in the street.  Unsuspecting tourists to the garage area would see them while walking, reach downn and try to pick them up and these guys would be back in the garages cracking up.

@Michigan_Mike there is a kite shop in Long Beach, Washington, that has a quarter glued down on the sales floor. I've tried to pick it up only twice...
