Led dimmer switch

hello to all

as any one ever tried to install led dimer switch to control the ourside light or even inside light.

the porch light are in my mind and most of the time way to bright and most of the time only good to anoy the camper 1/4 miles away, or attrack bug and butterfly to camp.  (Ok, I might be exagerating a bit, but I think you get the picture).

i do not want to remove them, cause they could be useful to anoye the neighbors.  Just kidding again.  They could be usefull at time.

@Luckyj I searched on "porch light" and found many posts-this one from @ChanW may be pertinent, as may be others. http://tab-rv.vanillaforums.com/discussion/comment/74364#Comment_74364. You're right, it's bright

@Twojgrams, thank you.  And do not worry about T@G or T@B specific, so many components are the same and on top of that, a good idea can often be good for any of the two.

the link you provided works for bulbs type light.  The ones on my 2017 T@G are made with LED strips and the rear galley light is also an LED strip inside a sealed enclosure.

so, might have to go with the dimer.

Thank you.  I might try the tape until I make a move on a switch!  And might go with both.  Amber tape if I can find it and dimmer.

I think I mentioned in that thread that there are LEDs that are made for dimmers and the rest can't be dimmed. I think you'd have to do some fixture converting if you want dimmers. Not a big deal, I wouldn't think.

@Ratkity, you are right about the fixture for dimmebale led fixture.  Would have to test them.  But I am now wondering if the switch that I have found do not have phantom power draw. (Is this the right word?)

so it might take me a while to go foward on this.  Maybe next spring since bugs and flys season is pretty much over for us up here.

I have no idea, @Luckyj. Lights shouldn't don't draw power if totally off. Even cheap dimmer switches of old had a fixture "off" built in. If you punched the rheostat, the fixture was off (not literal punch - Dad would certainly object to that!). Just pushed the dimmer switch until you heard a click.

The ones that I found (the switch, see the first post) for 12 volts look like theay are touch pad.  Imdo not think that the light is the thief, but the switch.  For any reason, I have the feeling that touch pad are always under power, even if minimal, but I was wrong before, and I will be wrong again. But sometimes I am right to!

But for this one, I do not know.

I'm putting a red tape film over my outside light... (NO, not the reason you might be thinking. Ha, ha) but because if tones down the light and makes it easy to view the stars at night.  Red lights are used whenever you have a telescope around to help adjust your eyes.     Found taillight red tape for only $1.99 at Ace Hardware.

Just did the tape thing on the outside light. Amazing difference. It is now usable. The outside light b4 was worthless for sitting under at night. Much better now. Cheap easy fix that can easily be undone if you don't like it.
