Towing rating information

Hi all,
I've just been lurking over in the tab site and noticed lots of posts about towing weight and ratings. Something to keep in mind is that some (many?) modern vehicles, in addition to towing capacity information in the owners manual, also include a maximum trailer frontal cross section figure as well. I don't know how many other manufacturers specify it but I have seen it in two of my recent owners manuals. It's not only how heavy it is but also how big it is. My 2017 Jeep Cherokee is quite specific on the subject of trailer frontal area. It might be time well spent to have a peek in the owners manual. This is one of the reasons I peeled the roof rack off my Tag.

Never saw that figure listed in my 2005 VW Jetta Wagon's manual, but found out the "hard" way with a T@B-- anything over around 55-60 killed the MPG, even on my diesel. Realized it was simply a matter of wind resistance, the T@B was so much higher & wider than the Jetta. Moral: small roads fine; interstates, not so much....
