@ColleenD2 that's a really good price on the Little Red Campfire, just a few dollars over what I paid last year and cheaper than everywhere else! I love having a nice morning fire turning it off to enjoy the day and not worry about embers, and it's very handy up here when the summer burn bans kick in. There was only one trip last summer that the only legal flame was from a propane stove because the fire danger was so high. The rest I could use my fire. I also bought an 11 pound propane tank at the hardware store for it. Much easier to tote around! http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11196628 Happy camping!

@ColleenD2 since I spoke of it, we're now in summer burn ban mode in a lot of Washington State, probably along with a lot of the western US! No open fires, no open burning of any kind. Commercial propane fire pits still allowed, thank goodness! This little red campfire has paid for itself yet again!

@ColleenD2 here’s a small taste of what’s to come for you! Oh, FYI open the LRC propane valve VERY slowly with a long lighter lit and ready when you hear the gas. Took some hair off my arm the first time. Had the valve opened too fast!

@Homebodyatheart, the bottom of the LRedFire can get hot. I have two spare pieces of 1x3 that I had in the lumber pile that I put on the lid and put the fire base on that. Also, the "logs" soot because the propane is an incomplete burn (on purpose, right?). That soot gets EVERYWHERE where there is a slight breeze after all cools off.
I went on Amazon and got something called Dragon Glass. It's smoothed glass made for propane fire pits. There's a little soot, but it doesn't come off in huge flakes when you are putting the fire pit away. I've never had the glass escape while moving (as long as you keep the unit upright).
I was surprised how fast it uses propane. I keep a spare exchangeable tank for the fire pit. I'm not giving up my brand new propane tanks to an exchange system!

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been coveting the Little Red Campfire and managed to get one on sale. Does anyone connect it to the trailer tank? What adapter do you use?

@Ratkity I've never had a heat issue from the base, even when it's on my plastic mat. It gets warm, but never hot. Maybe you crank the fire up higher than I do? Setting it on a wood plank might not be a bad idea however. As for soot, it only gives me grief if I touch it. I'll have to look into Dragon Glass. Thanks!
@Marceline I bought a seperate 11 gallon Worthington tank (in the picture) at Ace Hardware. It is light enough to tote where I want it yet holds a lot of propane. I did buy an adapter so I can hook both my Coleman stove and the LRC to this tank. I haven't tried it yet as there was a great sale on 1# propane bottles a ways back and I've got a few (ok, 10) to use up.

Thanks for the Dragon Glass tip! No matter what, we are excited. My husband suffers from asthma due to chemical pneumonia from an industrial accident. Regular fires are a no go for us which breaks my heart but I love him more than campfires.
