Replacing the auxiliary fridge fan in my 320s

After 3 years our fridge fan went kaput. I was able to determine that it was getting 12v but wasn’t turning. Luckily Digi-key had an exact replacement for $4.12, and finally we got a rain free day to do the work.

The job was easy enough but I’m sure our dealer would have charged at least $140 for an hour’s labor. After cutting the wires free, you need to remove the metal tape and screen wire, then chip away the blobs of glue that hold the fan in place. You will need hot glue or similar to secure the new fan in place, and then replace the screen wire and apply new metal tape.

I opted to solder and tape the new fan wires, but one could also use “butt splice” connectors. When installing the new fan be sure it blows out, and handle the plastic vent carefully. It breaks easily after a few years of UV exposure. Recaulk as neatly as you can (not my strong suit).
