Hi everyone
We are getting ready to travel around Maine and are looking for recommendations.  There used to be a fb group that had a state by state listing of campgrounds.  Does anyone know that link?  Or any recommendations- in particular interested in Portland area, Boothbay, and Acadia.

    The Forums has a section called "Post Up Some Shots of Your Tab setup at the Campsite."  It ran so many pages in the first edition, it is now up to part 2.  I searched for Acadia Campsites in the search box and found a lot of hits for Acadia...you might try the same approach for the other areas.

    What are you looking for--private campgrounds with hookups or dry camping in public campgrounds? Also, what time of year are you planning on visiting?

    Hi
    We will be traveling this September and enjoy hiking, biking, and climbing activities.  Prefer to camp in state campgrounds.  Unsure of where to camp along the coastal areas.  Thanks

    In which case, check out the Maine State Park Campgrounds. Sebago is not far from Portland, and while not on the ocean it is on one of Maine's largest lakes. Camden Hills is further up the coast as you head toward Acadia. Both are very popular and usually filled to capacity in season, but things should start relaxing a bit in September.
    There's a nicer private campground on the Boothbay peninsula as well. I haven't stayed there personally (nor do I recall the name) but friends like it.
    Acadia will still be busy in September. Mt. Desert Campground and Bar Harbor Campground are two good private choices. You might not get into MDC, but BHC's saving grace is they don't take reservations!
    If you care to venture off the beaten Portland-to-Acadia path a bit, Cobscook Bay and Lily Bay State Parks (and their surroundings) are also worth a look.

    Stayed at Bass Harbor cause could not get a site at Acadia in the middle of October, about a half hour ride from Bar Harbor, very nice campground next to the iconic Bass Harbor Light, highly recommended.

    Shore Hills is the campground I was thinking of in Boothbay.
    Gray Homestead looks nice, too--small and further down the road on Southport Island. However, I have no firsthand knowledge of this place.
