Source For Glycol

What type of glycol is used in the Alde heating system and where can I purchase it? I live in Tucson, AZ. Thanks!

There is another thread on the forum where this is discussed. You can get it directly from Pleasant Valley, or this brand from Amazon. It must be safe for aluminum. Also, you need to mix it with distilled water (50/50) if memory serves.

Thanks. I've tried to find this product, but it's no longer available. I may contact Pleasant Valley and see what they have available. I don't think you can mix various different types or brands. Thanks again.

You can order the same glycol PV uses direct from Elsie, premixed and ready to use.

Camco also sells it, 35116 Boiler antifreeze. Under 20 bucks a gallon and should be available at any camping world, or Amazon. It's Concentrated and comes with a dilution chart. I forget what the Alde needs off the top of my head but it's online somewhere or in the manual.

I just talked to nuCamp and Alde and they both recommended Century TF-1 Heat Transfer Fluid from Amazon. $25/gal (and free 2 day shipping with Prime)

I am a newbee. I just purchased the Century TF-1 from Amazon. Dilute 50/50? Is says on the bottle, "Do NOT Dilute." Very confused at this point.

Use Century TF-1 straight from bottle. 50\50 is if you're buying 100% glycol.

If that's what it says, then that's what I'd do!

Such things are often sold ready to use. Motorcycle antifreeze comes to mind. Basically you are paying a premium for a half a bottle of water, but the convenience is nice so long as you aren't using so much you break the bank.

I wonder if automotive antifreeze in a PG formulation works? Cummins has it available in gallon jugs of pre-mix for around $18. Is Polypropylene Glycol antifreeze the same or is there something special about the Century TF and other like RV specific fluids?

I don't know what "a PG formulation" is but automotive antifreeze is usually ethylene glycol--highly toxic. It attacks the kidneys and is lethal in even a small amount if swallowed. Polypropylene or propylene glycol is non-toxic and often used as a preservative in foods.

@falcon1970 my point is that Cummins does make an antifreeze that is propylene glycol based for engine use. What I am wondering if that is something that could be used? I use the ethylene glycol version from Cummins in my truck and it is a very good extended life coolant. The discussion on this board leans toward the required antifreeze is a rare fluid, just saying there is a mainstream manufacturer that has an engine coolant that might work...

@N7SHG_Ham. Ah, OK. I get the "PG formulation' now. I would suppose that any brand of PG would work. But, I don't know that for a fact.
