After last week's freezing rain, and after breaking the key off in it, I finally used a torch to thaw it out enough to unlock it!

You need to lube it before water.  So it will not freeze.

I use the Proven Industries Lock. It’s expensive but will not fail.  Check it out.

Same. Locking coupler pin + Trimax wheel lock. Of course, either of these can be defeated if someone is really determined, but I do believe it makes my trailer unappetizing to thieves. 
And I also have a Spot tracker hidden in the trailer if the worst happens.
