New 400 (There is a whale in my garage)

We both agreed that whatever trailer we owned it would have to fit in our garage. So we bought a 320 Boondock. After using it we decided that it was too small. We traded in our 320 yesterday on a 400. We measured the garage at least 20 times to see if it would fit and believed it should. After talking to the Dealer and coming up with a contingency plan if it didn't fit we took it home. As we were backing up the driveway I said "No way this is going to fit." I was never so happy to be wrong, it fit! We put a trailer that was 102.5" tall through a 100" garage door. Our driveway is sloped and allowed the front of the trailer to drop down under the garage door opening. The fan cover brushed the weather seal as it passed the door threshold.

treefrog you are giving me hope!! We are building a new house in Arizona with an 8 ft entry door and my spouse insists that there is no way that our 400 will fit. I'm still crossing my fingers!!!!

She is probably right. We have an 8'6" door, actual opening is 8'4" and it clears by 1/2 inch. Trailer is 8'7" tall. The reason ours fits is that the sloped driveway allows the front of the trailer to dip down and slip under the door.

nuCamp specs trailer at 100" actual is 103".

Considering buying a 400 but I have a 8 ft door. Two options? Deflate tires somewhat in front of the garage? Will this work?

Or.

Buy smaller tire/wheels? What size will work?

Prefer to deflate tire.....yes?

I saw the other threads but no one spoke of deflating the 400 tires to lower a few inches or more. Why wouldn't this work?

They are actually 104" per NüCamp direct convo. Our carport in Arizona is 99" (8'.1) per city regulations and it doesn't fit. We are having to extent our gate/fence to put it behind a gate, also per city regulations. Be sure to check with your city in Arizona about rules, they changed a few here in the West Valley and we are having to jump through hoops now.

Most standard garage doors are 7'. Combine that with the fact that 400's are pretty new to the fold, there probably aren't that many 400 owners even considering this issue.

As dragonsdofly noted, there are lots of discussions on this topic regarding the 320 (which is just a few inches over 7'). If your clearance is that close, you may well be able to employ some of the same strategies to get your 400 under an 8' door.

I don't want to sound rude, but you're not getting one in a 8' door.
Our door is 8'6" and the trailer brushes the weather seal going in.
Plus the tongue is lowered by a foot because of a sloped driveway, lowering the front taller part of the trailer a couple inches.
If we did not have a sloped driveway we would need a 9' door.

Yep, probably true. At a reported 8'8" for the 400, 8" is a lot to make up.

Non-Outback/Boondock 320s are reported at 89", so owners have only had to squeeze 5" out to get under a standard 7" garage door.

Also the actual opening is 2" smaller than 8' with the wood trim leaving only 7'10".

OK, I am convinced...buying a TAB 400 and installing a 9.5' door to my secondary garage which has 10' ceilings. Thanks for the feedback.

You also need room for a sufficient header over that 9.5' door. How much of a header depends on what it's made of and how much roof load it's carrying.
