CoolCat A/C in T@B 400 cuts on and off constantly

Hi, I'm on my second trip with my new 400 and the A/C just cuts on and off. It will run maybe 30 seconds and cut back off. It's hard to sleep with it cutting on and off like that. Its maintaining a desired temp in the camper. Perhaps it is just too powerful for such a small space?

    Which year of T@B 400, please?  The 2018 and 2019 have Cool Cat A/C units and the 2020 has a different name brand (it escapes me right now). 

    On the Cool Cat, put the A/C in “auto” mode, the fan runs all the time and masks the sound of the compressor coming on, so it doesn’t disturb you.

    "Auto" mode on the cool cat will make it cycle off and on.  You want to put the fan on low or high instead of auto.  That will make the fan run continuously and only the compressor will cycle.

    Thanks guys! That will definitely help.  I have a 2019 model. I also just discovered that the vent under the seat by the door was pointed straight up toward the thermostat. I redirected that downward and that seems to be helping it.

    I'm still having the issue with my a/c compressor just constantly cutting on and off like every 5 seconds. The thermostat is really high up (I cant even read it on my tippy toes and I'm 5'6. I'm very unhappy with the a/c in my 2019 model. At night even though it's cool enough (72) it feels humid in here. I opened the ceiling vent but that didnt help.  I think the constant on and off issue is related to the high position of the thermostat. Anyone else having this problem. It also drives me CRAZY that even with fan on low it blows so hard and the vent in the back is so low it freezes my face at night.  Very poor placement of the a/c vents throughout. I'm considering trying to find some way to have the ac system and vents totally redesigned but that will be so expensive. This issue really interferes with my enjoyment of the camper.

    I can tell from the low vent comment that you have the bigger three way fridge, that vent placement was one of the compremisses for that fridge. I assume you have the Cool Cat and NOT the Air8?

    Thermostat placement high by door always shows way warmer than rest of trailer due to being close to an outside wall and ceiling. Finding a way to reposition that about mid height on the wall between dinette and bath would really help IMO. I let the camper cool down to where it feels right then bring the set point up until AC cycles off ignoring what the temperature is on display.

    As far as humidity, can't help there, mine seems to do fine, but I do live where it is drier in the PNW.

    The 2021 400 has the placement of the Alde and Coolcat thermostats reversed from the earlier models with the Coolcat one bottom. The new placement should make the ability to read easier for shorter campers. It may not be low enough to make a temperature difference.

    Oh thanks for explaining why the vent is so low! Seems obvious now! Haha  I love my large fridge so much that I'm now more ok with the compromise! I have a Cool Cat. I think I just needed to vent out the hot air trapped in the ceiling. Trial and error! Good advice on making a mental adjustment on the thermostat to allow for the undesirable location.

    It might be obvious, but let me make sure you know that you can turn/rotate the covers on each of the AC vents to direct the air up or down.  We have ours in the back blowing up and away from our faces. The ones near the front should be blowing away from the thermostat on the wall to get better on/off circulation. If you turn them to blow air directed toward the thermostat, you may be triggering the thermostat to shut off too soon.

    Thanks ADRawli,

    Fortunately I did figure out early on the the front floor vent was pointed up and was part of the problem. I think I have them optimally positioned so that isnt my issue.  That definitely helped though so thanks for pointing that out. I think on really hot days venting the ceiling air out helped a but as well.
