Has anyone made this modification in this way? Wondering if I’m going to need to move my spare tire to the back of the T@B

Yes, I had two golf cart batteries in the tub of our 2016 Q, and our spare is mounted on the front jack. The batteries are a snug fit, but it does work.

I decided to upgrade from the tub to a truck box this year.

Have you spoken to the repair shop? I’m certain it’s possible with a front tub and since they place the tires on the front of the 400’s it should be doable with your trailer. In the past I have seen others use a modified vehicle tire storage assembly mounted to the front of trailers, allowing people to lower the tire down via a cable. Anything can be done as long as tongue weight requirements are adhered to and available clearances are there.

Here is a picture of our new tub and batteries.
Austin from NuCamp recommended not using the plastic battery box I got from Amazon to use in the tub. I used two 6 volt Interstate Golf Cart Batteries.

Thanks to everyone that helping in both threads I started about this mod

I asked about this and Austin felt it was not needed

I don’t plan on storing anything else in the tub since we don’t have a bathroom or use hoses

Is there a cover that would fit? I could not find just a cover

We have 2 batteries plus a Honda 2000 generator and still under 300lbs tongue weight. Tows beautifully.

I used interstate 6GC2 golf cart batteries
I switched to the outback diamond plate tub which has two handles to thread the tie down strap through

The NuCamp repair shop installed the batteries, switched the tubs and did the wiring. Batteries sit directly on the bottom of the tub with no other hardware. Seems solid and does not move

@Dalehelman, I'm interested in your load balancing...

I finally got around to actually weighing our Tab tongue, rather than relying on my back to estimate it (ouch!)...

It turned out to weigh in at just under 300# dry weight, more than I like if we're going to put all those beers in the fridge (Ok, it's probably going to be ice, milk for coffee, and wine...), and any other sundry items forward of the axle.

This is with the standard plastic tub, twin 6V GC batteries, a smaller 10# propane cylinder, the new plywood floor in the tub, and the spare tire on the tongue.

It surprised me that it went up so much with the addition of the second battery and plywood floor. I re-moved the spare tire to go under the bed (behind the axle) and that brought the tongue weight down enough to make me happy, but we still need to be careful loading the Tab and the back of the truck.

Have not weighed it but it drove great and did not notice any problems.

To compensate I did pull out most of the gear from the trailer that I used to store and two tubs. I can easily fit them in the car

As long as I am under my vehicles tongue weight hitch tongue weight and trailer tongue weight limits. I find the more weight on the tongue the better the trailer tows. I make know adjustments even with a full fridge and holding tanks.

I agree with you for sure
For now will keep trailer light and can add weight if needed

We mostly just keep a small amount of clothes and bedding inside. The rest in the tv
