where have you been, where would you go, how far south, after january 1st? looking for warmth and sun from iowa winter :)

    Any where you go south of about the middle of TX will have warmth and sun in Jan.
    Yes Texas is big.  Don't be fooled.  "The sun has riz, the sun has set, and we is still in Texas yet."

    i have been doing a fair share of reading, oh my, we will easily consume the winter days of iowa, basking in the warmth. so much to see, no hurry to see it :)

    Drive out to Arizona.   Plenty of BLM land, sunshine and warm air.  👍🏻

    Everything in Texas is at least 4 hours away from where you start !

    We really enjoyed wandering along the gulf coast.  From Galveston south to South Padre there are several Texas State Parks and CGs along the way.  
    There is an interesting KOA in San Antonio on an old pecan plantation with great access to downtown. 
    The "hill country" just west of Austin has some nice camping with reasonable access to the city. 
    Big Bend NP is a very long way from everything including any significant commercial development - beautiful and remote.
