    @ScottG - I completely agree, this type of things is not for the uninitiated. There was a lot of deliberation before I even pitched my detailed plan to my parents. It was only days work to remove the header in a non-destructive manner. Honestly the hardest part was finding the help to move this heavy sucker. Yes I did put the header back, I'm all closed in and protected form the wind & snow!

    @GatorEgg - It was originally their idea. However the opening was only 88" high so I wrote it off as being too much work. Once I realized there was minimal load on the gable end the idea started to grow on me. 

    Over the past decade or so the house hasn't received the TLC that it's needed. For example the garage used to be sooo full that you barely stand in it before. So in exchange for me parking my trailer in the garage (and living in it) I've been cleaning the property, completing renovations, helping to manage the chaos that comes with having an extended family staying in one house.
