What? Walmart's Closed!

Thought I'd get an early start, run into Williston, stop at Walmart to see if the Thermacells came in, hit the grocery store and restock on food, get propane, etc. Guess what, in North Dakota all general merchandise stores have to close at midnight Sat night and can't reopen until noon on Sunday. So, if you're traveling across ND you'll need to cool your jets till noon if you need to restock.

PXLated, I'm aging myself, but I remember when no store was open on Sunday. And I remember when all stores were closed on Christmas.

When you come to Indiana, stock up on alcohol on Saturday, because you can't buy alcohol on Sunday, although you can buy at local breweries, wineries and you can have a glass of alcohol to drink with a meal.

Like I said, stock up on Saturday or spend Sunday wine tasting. And, you can buy bottles of wine at wineries on Sunday, and beer at the breweries.

No off-sale alcohol (liquor stores) sold in Minnesota on Sundays, but bars and restaurants serve full selection.  There is an exception - growlers can be sold at breweries.
I also remember the days when no stores were open on Sundays.

Well, Walmart got 8 Thermacells in and they were out within a half hour of stocking them. Oilfield workers scooping them up as fast as they hit the shelves. Don't think I've ever been to a busier Walmart. And, found out what everybody does while waiting for Walmart to open, they all go to the car washes - long waiting lines.

I don't know if it has changed, but a few years ago I was in Mahwah, NJ, and surprised to find everything closed on Sunday.  Who knew a county in New Jersey still had blue laws?

I remember debating with a family member because our local Walmart closed at 11:00 PM and they didn't believe me, until we got there and it was closed.

We still have a Wal-Mart that's not a SuperCenter, and they do open at 9 and close at 11. All of the remaining Wal-Marts are SuperCenters, and are open 24 hours.

Finally scored a Thermacell - All Walmarts were out along my route from NW ND until I got to Mitchell, SD and they had 12 in stock. From none to a lot in only 600 miles.

Understand.  Lot of folks not overly interested in touristy things anyway.  It is sort of out of the way, but worth a one-time side trip if time permits.

One thing the Thermacell does not repel - Flies - They just look at it and laugh.

Just received my Thermacell and extra supplies. Bought it from Amazon at what seemed like a good price. I'm a little disappointed in the amount of light it provides. But if it only repels mosquitoes I will feel I got my money's worth. BTW, with Amazon Prime I received it the day after I ordered it.

Walmart has coupons for $5 rebate on thermocells. Just bought my first one. $19.97 minus $5 seems like a sweet deal. Eager to try it out. Last trip camping I came home with 81 large welts from mosquito bites.

vito - You must have bought the tabletop model. I bought the small, portable one like Tabster

I bought the larger Thermacell so that I would have the lantern function as well as the mosquitoe repellent. Its not as bright as I hoped it would be, but can serve nicely for some basic lighting while sitting around the campfire.

Got my Thermocell tonight. It's the small personal one so I can take on my shoots.

Jenn - Mosquitos tend not to bother me when I'm moving but when I'm at the tripod standing still, they swarm - so, I put the Thermacell on the ground below the tripod and not a mosquito within feet.

That's awesome. Truthfully, I haven't had too much trouble in the fall, but I didn't want to wait until there was a, "next time" and I was without one.

In Ky I remember the Blue Law as it was called. Only essential services were open on Sunday. You had to gas up on Sat if you were low and planned on some Sunday drive. It gradually phased out in the early sixties or thereabouts as I recall. I'm 67 now and I've seen a LOT of changes in our American life and culture. Less good than not I'm afraid, but let's not go there. (wink)
