Flat Sofa Back

2017 320S   As noted by many, the area behind the sofa is a great storage area - at least on the right hand (door ) side. Problem, I'm a bit short on the reach, even pulling it forward as far as it will go I cannot reach the bottom behind the Alde.   I can get the sofa past the window on the door side but it is just a 1/2 or so too high on the other side.        Has anyone opened the sofa and worked back to get to the wood backing then, cut off enough to get to to lay flat ?     If so, what problems did you encounter ?

    @game,  we just removed both hinges on the back cushion and moved it forward and moved the two separate cushions to the back. You do loose the ability to tilt the back cushion but for our needs that was okay.

    There’s a well done YouTube video where the guy creates a mod so the hinge goes both ways. He has a 2015, and it’s a nice mod. Someone here suggested just removing the hinge screws on the back so you can lift it up for easier access. I’ve also got a 2017 320S and decided this week to just remove the 8 screws, which are Robertson #1 screw heads I believe. Well, six came out no real problem, but the middle two on the passenger side are giving me grief and starting to strip out, so I need a new plan! Once I get them out I plan to make three braces with wood that will hold the couch back up on the rare occasion I want to use it as a couch vs bed. I like options!

    Thanks the info.  Hope you get those tough screws out .  May have to saw or grind a small slot across the head and use a flat head driver.   Will look forward to you finished mod.

    It's a low-tech solution, but would one of these help? I don't store things under the back bench on the driver's side, but I do keep one of these in the back of my truck and it's real handy for fishing things from the front of the bed when my cap or cover is on.
