Alde control panel not turning on,

I got our first TAB320S 2016 last October. It was already winterized. I just de-winterized and noticed that the Alde control panel was not turning on. I checked everything per Alde recommendation and great videos, but to no avail. When I called a TAB certified service place, they told me I would probably need a new control board, it would cost me around $1,000. Then I stumbled onto this video of an English guy who had the same problem, but figured out it was the thermal fuse on the control board that was bad. These fuses wear out over time, but are soldered in. To get a better view, one has to screw off the top that says 'only certified service people should remove this top'. I did order the special Alde thermal fuse (on the english E-bay), I ordered 2 of them, to have an extra one, and payed around $18 I think. So, I took a deep breath, and removed that top and located that fuse. And, using a multimeter, it showed it did not have continuity. So by way of testing I only hung the new thermal fuse around the old one, and BINGO, my Alde control panel lit up so beautifully! Now I have to ask an electrician if I really have to cut out the old thermal fuse, and solder the new one in? or can I just continue to bypass the old one by wrapping the 2 wires sticking out around the old ones. I have never soldered, and this would not be an easy job I think. (I do not want to remove the whole control board out, I do not want to push my luck). But here is the link that was so helpful to me and saved me at least $1,000! :-)

Good for you! I know everyone loves YouTube....but......I think the answer might be in this thread.PS: Welcome to the Forums! It would be interesting to see how you might have "hung" your new fuse over the old one. If it is secure enough to travel with the fuse like that, it might save someone who is soldering impaired (like me).Pictures would be great!

. . . ideally you should solder the replacement in-place so it does not vibrate free or become intermittent.
That said, you might be fine using needle nose pliers to crimp the old/new leads together as tight as possible.
After all, you know where to look if the panel stops working again . . . .
P.S. Great job on solving the issue!'18 320 S, pitched axle, 3020HE; PNW basedTV: '17 Colorado V6 Z71 4x4, Tow Package, GM Brake Controller

thanks! I did crimp the leads, then used a little electrical tape to secure it a bit more. I have tried to get my picture into this comment, I can't get that to work yet..

Well, I suppose it’s my turn to deal with this. Camping a couple of weeks ago and one morning Alde would not turn on. Rememberd this thread and put a jumper wire across the thermal fuse. Worked and we enjoyed hot water the remainder of the trip. Ordered new thermal fuse and had someone solder it for me as my skills are very rusty. I do have continuity across the fuse now but when I installed the control board, nothing works. I triple checked to make certain connections were properly placed. Troubleshooting suggestions?

Did you check the regular fuses? The ones in the little green holders?

I can trace power to both sides of the thermal fuse but not certain where to check next.Dennis and Mary Jo

UPDATE: I walked through some diagnostics with Truma tech and determined the main circuit board was bad. They had one in stock ($249 + shipping). I installed it this morning and all systems working as normal. Be advised though, at least on our unit, wire colors do not match labels on the circuit board or the provided instructions. Best take good photos and notes before disconnecting terminals.Dennis and Mary Jo
