Multiple Mods - Tab 400

Here are couple of mods did for our upcoming AK trip

Bunk bed removal and storage replacement - used 1x4 boards and a birch type veneer to create built-in storage compartments. Dimensions (66" wide, 16" high and 4" deep).

Camera - installed camera attached to fan base, mainly be used to view traffic behind RV

Platform storage boxes - Didn't want to spend $$$ on the diamond plated boxes, so bought some Dewalt that fit the platform and made bracket system that allows boxes to slide forward to open and back for trailering.

Soft Start - Installed micro-air EasyStrat, it dropped ~20 amps for starting

Thanks
DJ

I like the storage mod. I did something similar for our 23' Tab 400. Removed the bunk bed and replaced it with a storage area.

We also have a rearward facing camera but once we started towing with a F150, my wife lifts the shades on the front and back windows and I can see through the t@b.  I also put mirror extensions on that help.  We use to have the larger monitor for the rear camera but when it broke, we purchased the smaller and it's worked fine.  I use my mirrors and being able to see through more and the camera if I'm in tight traffic or backing up.

@Blueespy, also leave the shades up and can see through the windows which helps. I didn't get tow mirrors; I have not gotten mirror extensions yet, not sure need them as can see good with default mirrors.

I wanted to camera to just check traffic behind the tab.

Exactly what I use our camera for - who is riding my t@b bumper.  The standard mirrors on my F150 work, but I got a pair of extensions ($90 from American Truck) that extend and offer an angle down the side but because they extend, I can angle them so I can see a portion of any car who is behind be that is at least a car length back.

I had some on my old Silverado; but while they worked I wasn't real impressed with them. I think if I want some better mirrors I while just get full towing mirrors and replace stock mirrors.

Great mods! I had the same thoughts for the bunk bed. Now I am definitely doing it!

Update - on the road in AK; but remembered to get screenshot of the EasyStart stats. I wanted AC cycle multiple times. Attached is app screenshot.

Overall, has worked great in the heat in lower 48.
