Anyone Towing a 320 with a 2025 Hybrid Ford Maverick?

HappyWandererHappyWanderer Member Posts: 20
Since the 2025 hybrid Maverick can tow up to 4000 lbs (with the towing package) I am considering  this vehicle to replace my current TV.  Does anyone have any experience with the new hybrid Maverick?  Specifically does it labour with a 320 and what is the impact on mileage/range?  Thanks.

I towed mine (2021 320S boondock now sold) with our '23 Ford Maverick ecoboost with the 4K tow package.  I have read towing reviews of the '25 hybrid Maverick with the 4K package compared to the '25 ecoboost with the 4K tow package. They will both tow 4K but the hybrid has trouble keeping the speed up in the hills compared to the ecoboost. The hybrid struggled going up hills towing almost 4K, most likely due to less horsepower than the Maverick ecoboost engine. A 320 does not weigh close to 4K though so you would most likely be alright if you stay out of the mountains. Our ecoboost didn't even know the 320 was back there in the hills.

In general I've heard the range on EVs drops by almost half when towing something like our Tabs, which have a lot of wind resistance, regardless of weight.

He's talking about a hybrid, not an EV. Maverick hybrids (and others) have a smaller gas engine and an electric motor.

I think a 50% reduction in range is typical for most tow vehicles with comparable size and capacity regardless of fuel. It certainly applies to my diesel VW Touareg.

Agree with @rfuss928. We see about a 50% drop in milage in both our Colorado (ICE) and Silverado (EV) when towing our 400.  Don't have any experience with the Mavrick hybrid though... sorry @HappyWanderer.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm guessing the Maverick Hybrid with the 4K capacity is still too new for real world experience with a T@B.

FWIW I take just under a 50% hit in mileage as well.  I had thought it was because of the aerodynamic efficiency of the car without a trailer and the turbo having to spool up with the added load. I figured non-turbos and trucks wouldn't be as affected, but, I guess I was wrong.  Especially surprised at the diesel.

@SLJ were you seeing a 50% reduction in mileage with the ecoboost Maverick?

I went from around 27mpg highway (w/larger tires and roof rack) to around 17 mpg. The weird thing is I got slightly better mileage when towing our 320 with two canoes on top of the Mav.
