Elwell Air8 Thermostat Power Button Not Working (Solved)

SunfellowSunfellow Member Posts: 30
I have a 2022 T@B 320-S Boondock with an Elwell Air8 air conditioner. Recently, I was running the air conditioner and I went to turn it off, the touch-screen power button refused to work. I pushed it several times, and no response. I finally got the air conditioner to turn off by flipping off the breaker to the air conditioner. Now the thermostat screen looks different. I tried resetting the system, but after typing in the "8699" reset code, the power button, which is part of the reset process, again refused to work, so I can't do a reset. Has anyone else had this problem? And does anyone know how to fix this? How can I reset the thermostat when the power button is not working?

Also, one more question: How reliable has the Elwell Air8 been for other T@B owners? I find it very loud and not very good. I do, however, live in Arizona so I am dealing with particularly hot weather.

Check first it's getting 12v power from converter fused circuit as interface is not on the 120v circuit.  Nucamp documentation did not list its 12v source.

We replaced the wall mounted control interface after ours stopped responding to touch.  Don't recall part cost.

Yes, super loud but we rarely use in our spring/fall limited outings.
When running we found pushing on air8 case dampened vibration noise a lot.
When I added batteries and plywood partition I tightly wedged case further which helped.

The AIr8 Installation Guide shows/states the unit requires 120VAC only power input.
Control Panel VDC is created by the Air8 main PCB.

This is different from the Alde Heat System as the Adle includes a propane operation mode so the WFCO Power Center does have a 12VDC Fuse to allow the Alde electrical items to operate in propane (fuel source) mode.

Okay, I suggest the actual wiring/connections be traced as
Air8 documentation indicates no 12VDC requirement and nüCamp DC Fuse Panel Labels are known to be incorrect over many production years . . .

Replacing the Air8 thermostat fixed my problem. The air conditioner on my T@B 320-S is working again, thank goodness! Thanks for the helpful suggestions.

I wanted to let anyone who runs into a similar problem know what I learned from this.

First of all, I contacted nuCamp. I called their tech support department and was routed to voicemail. I left a voicemail and no one called me back. I also followed through by sending an email and no one responded to that either. A few days later, I tried again, and this time I was able to reach a tech person. I described my problem and said I thought the problem could be the thermostat. The tech fellow I spoke with asked me to hold for a minute while he ran my issues by some other nuCamp tech guys and when he came back, he said, yes, they all agreed, the thermostat was probably the problem. That was very helpful! Then I asked about ordering a replacement thermostat and was told that I would need to go through a dealer. I had already tried my local dealer (in Phoenix) and no one at that dealership responded to my query. So the nuCamp guy gave me the numbers of three dealers to call that he said were reliable:

    Princess Craft RV: 832-549-9000
    Missouri Teardrops: 660-909-3553
    Tikon Adventures: 208-523-3571

I called Princess Craft RV first and spoke with one of their reps. He said I needed to email him my basic information (my name, mailing address, phone number, description of the part I wanted to order (including a photo of the old one), and the VIN number of my T@B). I did this and never heard back from them. No acknowledgment of my call or email and no follow up on the email I sent. Silence.

Then I tried Missouri Teardrops and got the owner, Dana, on the phone. He was very helpful. He asked me to email them the same information the Princess Craft RV guy requested and said he would have the woman who ran the parts portion of the company call me when she came back into work on Monday. She followed through, as promised, and I was able to order the thermostat through them. It arrived a couple days later from nuCamp. Not sure why I couldn't order it directly from nuCamp in the first place, but if you must go through a dealer, Missouri Teardrops is the dealer I recommend. They were great.

Now that I have the air conditioner in my T@B repaired I will, sadly, be selling it. She's a beauty but we can no longer keep her. I'll be adding a post about her later today or tomorrow.

MaxcampMuttonChops for their help. This forum is an awesome place to give and receive help!
