Has anyone figured out how best to arrange for additional outside storage on either side of the propane bottle/battery compartment on the Outback metal platform?

Great question. I have wondered about that too!

I saw a photo of a T@B somewhere that had 2 plastic DeWalt tool/storage boxes mounted on the platform. Home improvement stores have these in lots of sizes.John and Henrietta, Late 2016 T@B S Max in Western New York

Has anyone used any of the expanded metal screen inside this area? I believe it is an open area for the propane (to escape from should it leak) but if expanded metal could be cut to size and installed in this area it would provide more space for other items.Mike - Elmira, Mi / 2019 T@B 400 / 2021 Chevy Silverado LTZ

Probably a dumb question but what's "expanded" metal?

PXL, this is expanded metal -
Ahhh - Never heard it called that before.

If I had the platform, I would be checking out Rubbermaid Action Packers. Expensive, but very durable/weather resistant.
