Cleaning the Seven Pin Connector?

What are people using to clean out their seven pin connector (both sides) to ensure good connections?

No, each pin is insulated.

Sorry if I sound like an idiot - Do you then need to make sure the spray is just in the pin, no overspray liquid that could short between pins?

Brake cleaner evaporates very quickly, so it wasn't an issue for me. If your TV is turned off there shouldn't be any live pins anyway.

I use a small strip of emery cloth, a finger nail file would work also, once you cut it to size.

And I bought this little gizmo to help keep the trailer end clean and dry when not plugged in.

Also, apply a little amount of dielectric grease to the connectors, which help prevents corrosion to the connectors.

Dielectric grease has been recommended elsewhere. That's what I use. Keeps the water out.

Mercator, my 7pin's "battery" conductor pin is hot whether the TV key is on or not... isn't yours?

Mine is wired so if the key is off the T@B won't drain the TV battery.

I find that a Scotch-Brite type of pad works well, with either spray electrical cleaner or, in some cases, rubbing alcohol. Yep, then put some dielectric grease on it.

Fastway 7-pin Plug Cover. When I bought mine, only the manufacturer sold them, but I notice other places now have them. About $6.00 plus S&H.

I saw that Amazon had them, as does Fastways, and a few others. I didn't include a link because they are so easy to find on Google (Bing).
