That's not a 1" extension in a 2" adaptor sleeve, is it? My glasses may need adjusting. Just having a 2" receiver with a 16" length hitch (measured from hitch pin to the center of the ball )decreased my vehicle towing capacity by 1000 lbs (from 7000 to 6000). Since my ball is rated for 6000, I wasn't worried. I bought the extra long hitch so I could open the tailgate without banging the jack or jack handle. Extensions can cut tongue and tow capacity by 50%. YMMV. Be careful out there! Hope all best for your mod!

My towing capacity it 6800lbs. It's a ball mount connected directly into the hitch. It is all 2" with the ball mount sleeved and welded into a 1/4 inch thick 2" sq stock. My design with a certified welder doing the work and signed off by a welding instructor.
if you have other thoughts I would welcome them.

Seems like it will work. My solution was a Swagman hitch rack, which wraps around an extended draw bar. Have had no troubles with it and cost about $100 for the complete setup.
We have the same Swagman setup, and it works great for our two bikes. I second the comment that though ours supposedly can carry three bikes, that's not really realistic.
