We haven't had any problem, but I want to mount it on the tongue.Cheryl, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel, 2015 T@b S Maxx (T@bitha)

When I last left my dealer's after having them check out the battery issue, the sales guy came running after me because he saw that my spare was loose. I am going to be moving mine toil the tongue for the added clearance.

Ours is firm and tight. I think we will move it. Jenn, are you doing it or having someone do the job?

Jenn - Warning - If you move it to the tongue, it interferes with opening the Jeep tailgate. As you know, I did the Jack-E-Up to get the crank out of the way. Without thinking, I then moved the spare to the tongue and recreated the problem. I might be able to snuggle it up really close to the propane cover and at least be able to get it open far enough to open the window.I definitely want that spare out from underneath - Every time I've had a tire problem in my life it's been in crappy weather (rain, sleet, hail, snow). I can't imagine crawling around underneath to get the spare.

I have never had my spare tire mounted underneath as designed. It will drag on practically any gas station entry I've been through. There is a reason they come from the factory stored under the seat.
I moved mine from under the seat and mounted it on the tongue as much for weight balance as anything. There are several different mounts available. I've seen some mounted across the tongue rather than along it, but everyone's setup is different, and some have TV issues with the tire mounted on the tongue, and some have problems with it because of bicycle mounts, etc.

Yeah, I wouldn't put it onto he very front, would put it on the side of the tongue or if I could find it flat across the tongue.PXLated said:Jenn - Warning - If you move it to the tongue, it interferes with opening the Jeep tailgate. Verna - I have that same tire mount but mounted directly on the frame. I see you have a spacer, is the tire still tight and stable with that? I imagine it would be. What's the vertical extension for?
-
I also have this mount. The spacer is an excellent idea because the u-bolts are really too long for the width of the tongue material. I used washers in the back to compensate, but whish I had thought of the spacer. It places the wheel further out of the way. May go back and redo it.
-
"It places the wheel further out of the way"And you can probably move the tire back, closer to the propane cover which may solve my problem with the tailgate."May go back and redo it"Me to - Am out boondocking so will have to scrounge for a spacer.
-
The spacer is an old 1 1/4" draw bar that is rustproof. I used it to space the tire away from the tongue jack's crank handle to keep me from busting my knuckles on the tire! I could only move the mount so far back because of the platform crossbar. It works, and I wasn't using the old drawbar anyway.Verna, Columbus, IN

Just so happens that I have a couple of those laying around somewhere, if I can just remember which junk pile they are in.
