No tools. I'll look at it in the morning/daylight and look at exactly what I did. The only tool needed was a small phillips screwdriver for the screws on the backside of the cubby/plate that you'll see once its out. I think I have a video of it also...johntreacy said:@Cuffs Did removing the existing cubby require any special tools or just a fairly strong tug? I have a new Tacoma and tugged gently around the box and the face plate that contains it and nothing moved immediately.
We have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma and we ended up installing it to the left of the steering column, near the parking brake lever. It took several days to get used to it being down there and not knocking it when exiting the truck. Now we're pretty well trained to get in/out and not have to contend with it. Easy to get to the pre-existing harness which is tucked up under the dash in that same location. Easy to see the unit and adjust as needed while you're driving too.dinzzy said:On my 2016 Tacoma I mounted the controller on far left near the driver’s door and near the hood release. It’s out of the way but I can still view it. It’s also close the the pre-wired plug for the controller!

I went very well. It took maybe 30 mins.

dinzzy, can you tell me more about the plastic tools? Pics? Or a link for ordering? Thanks!dinzzy said:I mostly did. I didn’t take the the door sill off and the plastic panel under the dash I only pried it back to reveal the bolt behind it that needs to be removed. If your attaching the brake controller wire for the first time it’s best to remove this panel. I have some plastic door panel removal tools that I used. These were helpful and don’t damage the plastic edges of the panel you’re removing. The tabs on the switch panel seem fragile so be careful pulling them back to pop it out. Have fun. You’ll enjoy the results!

Looks great. Just what we're going to be needing. I think I'm going to "please" or appease my family today. Heading down to Toyota. I love my 2003 Tacoma TRD. I've driven Toyota trucks since my first, 1979 SR5 I bought in 1980. Being retired military I've taken them to many countries of the world. My family has been bugging me to upgrade to a newer truck lately because they think our wanderings in the "old Toyota" will leave Papaw & Yaya broken down somewhere in the boonies.Cuffs said:I have a 2016 Taco and got this great mount from ESP Truck Accessories. The cubby literally pulls right out, theres a few tiny screws on the back plate, remove and save them. Put the new plate in place, screw back on, thread wiring harness through the back and snap back in place.
