Dale, the only thing I can think of is to alter the skirt. Cut a 3 inch high rectangle flap the length of the step and pull the step through. We carry the extra step too.
Not an answer to your exact question, but here's a photo of the DIY skirt we use with our awning in bug country. It's basically what SAM described, but also features a Velcro flap that allows you to pull the skirt around the open step and then snug it up around the frame.
Not hard conceptually, but trying to do the cutting and sewing on the full tent might be challenging.
@Dalehelman, The "flap" that covers the step is actually a separate piece that fits in the lower keder rail, with Velcro strips that fit the over the fender for the wheel well. I've pondered the same thing as you, and have only used my side tent twice, so I'll give it some more thought. If you come up with a solution in the mean time, let me know. I'm not as vertically challenged as are you, but it's still a pretty good leap for a well- seasoned guy without the step to assist getting in & out! (especially getting back out! ) @SAM's suggestion is one that I've thought of, but I don't have a means of sewing reinforcement material around the cut for the step which I'd want to do to keep the material from fraying.

Thats kind of my thought as well. I was just wondering if anyone had done something like that. Thanks
