Maybe you haven't seen the newer Swift Hitch. It is meant to be positioned anywhere so you could use it also to increase your situational awareness.rcuomo said:Hi Jenn,
The Swift Hitch is a good device. The Ridgeline has a tailgate 3-way back up camera that covers my hitch. But I was looking to increase my situational awareness, something behind my T@B that would allow me to watch the adjoining lanes of traffic especially when looking to change lanes. Living on LI with the parkways off limits to trailers, my only way off the island requires me to transverse bridges through NYC where the SOBs don't give you a break and seem to enjoy passing trailers and cutting you off. I was not able to find suitable mirror extensions to increase my field of view so the rear view camera became my alternative.

I did not think about latency but none of the reviews mention it. Worth looking into.ChanW said:That Swift Hitch is pretty cool.
It's good that it's local WiFi, in addition to its internet accessibility. It would be interesting to know how the latency is with a cell connection. I would think it'd be pretty hard to use as a back-up camera with the latency that would come via the internet! But useful as a short term security camera, as long as you have internet access.

I did some searching, and the only come t was in regards to a 48' semi and the manufacturer responded that it would be around 200ms, so I am not sure it would be detectable on a T@b.ChanW said:jenn, I'd think it'd have negligible latency in the Wi-Fi mode, though.

MuttonChops said:How are you handling the T@B to TV connection:
[1] Connector used.
[2] How much cable slack.
[3] Rain/Snow protection.
[4] How do you store the TV end (at hitch) when not in use.
rcuomo said:. . . have a rubber cover over the plugs and use dielectric grease on all the connections. I just store the connections on the trailer side in plastic and on the receiver side just keep it Velcro wrapped around the hitch. Cable slack is about the same as the 7-pin cable. Basic RCA powered video connectors are both ends.
