It could be runoff from the butyl tape used to waterproof the screw penetrations holding the handle on. Try rubbing alcohol. It won’t harm the exterior of the camper. (View Post) -

I believe the manufacturer wants them in the open position because when closed they are under tension. I also store ours with the shades open. (View Post)
