I've had two flats and have had the bearings greased (pic) and they've all put the jacks under the back corners of the frame. In all the cases I remained hooked up while they did their thing.
Sorry, not me. I've never actually disassembled and repacked the bearings on my 2015. However, at the start of each season I do top up the grease via the EZ Lube zerk at the center of each hub.
We also have the Ultimate Jack on a 400. The design is not the best and requires annual (at least) servicing in our climate: Installed ours in March, and by October the top thrust bearing was a mess of rust and the handle was hard to turn. Servicing is easy: Remove the bolt that goes through the handle, and then the 2…
I got these 8" tires & wheels.. Marathon 2.80/2.50-4" Pneumatic (Air Filled) All Purpose Utility Tire on Wheel, 3" Centered Hub, 1/2" Bearings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BH4IZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Tn3BBbBKSKZRM They are 4-ply, 30 psi tube tires, so flats can be easily fixed. They have a 1/2" axle size, so I used a piece…
Not at all. The brake was installed backwards. So, the magnet bound up the first time you tried to apply the brakes. It should have pulled the shoes in. The new hub/brake drum will come with new bearings and races. If only the one side was getting hot, the other side should be fine. A new magnet and you should be back in…
I read in a discussion about greasing wheel bearings that T@b's should never be jacked up under the axle. Something about it being a hollow tube that can be crushed. Where should the jacks be placed if not under the axle?
Larry, I have Carlisle tires on my Silver Shadow. They are good. My neighbor, the mechanic, said they were the best trailer tires I could buy. His opinion, and your's my differ. And, I have an appointment to have the bearing greased and repacked. I just have no desire to mess with that grease. The utility trailer company…
Oh, keep in mind the bearings on your Dutchmen are sealed and do NOT need to be greased. At some point down the road they will need to be replaced, depending on miles towed. We're beginning to see the earlier years of Dutchmen T@Bs getting having to be replaced. Next time out, feel the hub to assure it's not hot. I, too,…
I just greased the old girls bearings a few days back when the temps hit 60°. Got her all nestled nicely in the barn, fed her some oats and she’ll be ready to roll west to New Mexico on the 28th.
But, would you say also... You don't need scissor jacks if all you need is stabilization in campgrounds. If on the other hand you want to suspend your T@B for things like greasing bearings, etc., jacks are the cats meow?
