Creating More Storage Space by Moving Bed Slats (2019 T@B 320S)

Here are a few pictures showing where we moved our bed slats to create more overall storage. They are now stored flat over the electrical cabinet/bench on the driver's side, under the A/C unit. This created more storage space under the passenger side bench.

The bed slats rest on a 1/4" piece of plywood. The plywood protects the electrical underneath from any mishandling of the slats. There is also a 3/4" stop to protect the wiring running along the outside wall, over the wheel well. Note the finger holes to make pulling the plywood out to access the electrical.

1" x 4" cleats were attached with screws from underneath to the bottom of the factory framing. This provides the ledge that the plywood panel rests on.

The factory panel that covers the electrical cabinet still rests on the factory framing, so the cushions are all at the same stock height. Fitting the bed slats inside this cabinet has about 1/4" of free movement in all directions.

Great idea, @CrabTab! Simple, creative, and a good utilization of available space.....not to mention literally thinking outside the box. It is amazing how folks on this forum continually come up with new ideas to share with others.2019 T@B 320 S Boondock Lite; 2025 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 4x4
