Heating the side tent - leaving the door open

With cold but above freezing temperatures could you heat the side tent by leaving the door open or would it be ineffective and waste gas/electricity? We are a family of four and considering getting a used CS. We are thinking about sleeping two people outside in the tent and two inside. We might do the bunk bed modification as well.

If the heat would work with the door open and heat both the tent and the inside would it cause any venting danger?

Don't own a CS (have a 400), but I'd say no on a couple levels. First I doubt the heater in your CS would handle the doubled cubic feet your adding with the tent (which is not insulated so heat loss would a big factor). Second your heater would be running all night trying to reach desired temp. Very expensive...and a chilly (or very hot!) night in the CS. Not sure who would get the better deal! 🤔

You would bake the camper occupants and not heat the tent much.  Either use a Mr. Heater (propane) or an electric space heater if you have hookups.
