TV & MPG with T@b

jkjennjkjenn Member Posts: 6,391
On another a discussion as started on MPG, so I thought I would start a thread since this type of discussion is common. Share your TV & MPG and some general comments on performance.

I have a 2011 Jeep Unlimited Sahara - Automatic. The gas mileage is never great, with about 14-16 mpg on the highway. The model 2012 and later get a little better mileage, I'm told and also have a slightly higher powered alternator.

When I tow from East to West, I get about 11-12 MPG if I drive 55-65 mph. If I drive around 70 mph, it drops to about 9-10 mpg. Driving from West to east, I generally catch a nice tailwind get better mileage with about 12-14 mpg around 55-65 and 10-12 around 70 mpg. In the Colorado mountains, I get a lot better gas mileage, closer to the 14-16 mpg range. MY Jeep is sluggish in mountain passes, but it makes it up!

We rented a t@b in April & I got 12 mpg with my 02 Durango. We're still a week or 2 from picking ours up & I had been thinking new TV but it doesn't look like I would get much improvement & you don't even know the t@b is back there pulling with the Durango. Hmmm.......

2015 Honda Pilot. In 7000 miles of towing our T@b. The worst tank was 13 mpg going 62 into a headwind. The best tank was 22 mpg. You guessed it tailwind. Most often we get 16-17 going 62 mph. Hills are no problem. We love the combination. FYI we get 24-26 hwy not towing and going 73 mph.

2014 Ford Escape 4wd 2.0 ecoboost.  Just finished a trip to Lassen Park (1K) getting 19 mpg with T@B.  Without T@B, generally get high 20's.  Prior vehicle was Suburu and it got similar mileage in 20K in trips.

Like Jenn I have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited except mine is a six-speed stick. Without T@B I get 18-23 (goes to heck over 70 though). With T@B I've gotten as low as 10 in a very strong headwind. Generally I plan on 14, that's the most common.

From Pittsburgh to Colorado - strong headwind, especially through Kansas if I go I-70, Not quite as bad if I drive I-80, but still bad.

2012 Subaru Forester, 2.5L engine, manual transmission.   I usually get 28-30mpg when not towing.  On a recent trip from Michigan down to the Smoky Mountains and back, I got between 16-18 while towing the T@B.   From the sounds of other posts here, I guess I should be fairly happy with that.

We have a 2014 Subaru Outback with the 2.5 and CV transmission. I just towed our new TAB CS-S from Round Rock (Austin) TX back home to South Dakota. We usually get around 30 mpg (highway) without any trailer. I got around 16-18 mpg towing the TAB. Usually about 65mph.  With the exception of the last 300 miles. Where I pushed a pretty strong head wind. And got about 12-14mpg.  The overall mileage from towing the LG 5 Wide is down about 3-4 mpg. A small price to pay for "indoor plumbing"! And the many "creature comforts" we now have:)

We have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport with the Automatic trans and we average about 18 MPG towing our T@B S. I tow at about 62 MPH, being in California with a 55 MPH speed limit towing. We have gong down to 11 fighting a head wind.

Just took my first camping trip on my T@B, 400miles round trip from SLC to Vernal, driving between 60-70mph, got 12.5mpg on 2014 F150, V6 Ecoboost. If I wasnt towing anything on my truck I would have gotten 18-19mpg on the same trip.

I have a 2015 T@B CS-S M@x.  Tow it with a 2012 Rav4 V6.  I get between 14-17 MPG towing.  Had a 13' Scamp, loaded with bath/ac, etc. and got between 19-21 MPG.  When not towing the Rav gets about 24 in the city and 29-31 on the highway.
