I sheared one nut off of the spare tire cage when attempting to repair a flat tire. It took a day and a cheater bar to finally remove the nuts. They were galled and cold welded together which is common for soft metal. So I replaced the spare tire cage with two 3/4"x 3' threaded rods and 12" of DIN rail. See pictures below. Consider testing the removal of your soft aluminum nuts before your next road trip.
New design allows easy removal while standing up.... no more crawling under your trailer.

Stock spare tire cage nut that sheared off because it COLD WELDED itself due to galling.

@CrabTab's cage failed and mine was headed in that direction, so I decided to install the tire carrier that nuCamp designed for attaching the spare to the aluminum tub. I am aware of at least one additional T@B owner who told me that the nut to the cage on their trailer sheared off. Very dangerous.
