Traveler warning - Crossing Mississippi near Memphis - I-40 bridge closed

There are hours long back-ups on I-40 and I-55 crossing the Mississippi River near Memphis due to the I-40 bridge closure.
We were on I-40 east many miles and several exits before the bridge and traffic came to a complete stop.  It took over an hour to get to the next exit to begin pursuing an alternate route.  Our navigation app did not warn us in time to avoid a big delay.
We were traveling east on I-40 from Arkansas and had to detour north on I-55 through Blytheville KY to I-155 to cross.  Not much out of our way heading NE toward Louisville.  Detours can easily add 100 miles or more depending on your destination.
