Air8 Mystery

@Tabnero, I am taking your comment about your Air8 mysteriously coming on and adding to it. Today, while working in the TAB, and plugged into 120 house current, I turned on the Air8 to a cool setting of 86. When it hit 84.1 it shut off. I turned the Air8 off, the screen went dark. I went inside the house for an hour and when I returned to the TAB the Air8 was running! The screen was dark and the Air8 was off!  Well, it continued to run while turned off for 23 minutes until the temperature was 84.1 and shut off. 

I do not know what would cause the Air8 to run while turned off, but I do not think it is “some frequency “ turning it on. I will be doing some internet searches and see what I uncover. May call Elwell tomorrow and see what they have to say.

Did you turn off the AC unit or just the display panel?  Sounds like you only turned off the display?

@Denny16, I turned off the Air8 using the switch on/off button Located at the bottom of the screen. The circle with the vertical line at the top of the circle. Is that the correct on/off button?

@freespirit, let me know if they respond to you as they did not respond to me. My unit was completely off, I had the heat on at 5000 feet and it was 32degrees outside
when the air 8 came on all by itself for the second time.

@Freespirit, sounds like it, look the switch up in the Air8 manual, it should say.  I have the CoolCat, so no real experience with the Air8 other than what has been posted here.

@Tabnero, an update you may be interested in. I will spare you the lengthly details, but after conversations with Elwell, everyone decided a good place to start would be to install a new control panel. I received a new control panel from Elwell for the Air8, installed it and so far I have NOT had the Air8 come on while turned off. I am continuing to do testing but things are looking up. The real test will have to wait until next spring when we are on the road for 8 weeks.

I have a feeling control panels fail at a predictable rate. Manufacturers know what it is and aren't talking. Thankfully most seem to be engineered to pop out, unplug, replug and pop in.

We replaced 3-way frig with Isotherm 2-way. At around 14 months I heard sound coming from the refrigerator vents. Refrigerator inexplicably started running on its own with no lights on control panel. Had to use battery disconnect to shut it down. Emailed Indel Webasto. No questions asked, they immediately sent out control panel. We fretted that we would have to drive T@B 400 5 hours to nearest authorized repair center (as per their warranty booklet). No one answered email trying to locate repair center. Panel arrived and it was obvious it was a 3 minute job to swap out yourself.
