Outdoor Shower Quick Connect Issue

Quick question.  Reviewed numerous threads on the quick-connect modification for the outdoor shower.  Purchased ½" braided steel water supply hose to connect mixing valve to quick connect.  The water supply hose does not trip the pin in the automatic closing valve in the wall unit mixing valve below.  I can't get water to flow.   What am I missing here?  Special hose for this or does the mixing valve need modification?

I cut one end of the existing hose and slipped it over a barbed fitting with the quick disconnect on the outside of the panel.

( Damn! I have some cleaning to do ... )

Got it.  Prefer to avoid destroying existing hose.  Will research further.
