I have had this also happen, wish the aluminum diamond shield went up further. I was hit by a stone thrown from a car on the oncoming lane so mud flaps on my tow would not have helped at all! Wonder if anyone has replaced the diamond shield with one that goes up taller? Art
I actually purchased some Suntek PPF (paint protection film) off of eBay and applied it to the left and right areas of the front of our 400 up to the top of the front window. I think this has helped avoid any more dings (I had a few which prompted me to install this). The hardest part is creating the templates. From there it's just a matter of spraying a soapy solution and putting the film on...a little tricky but not that hard.
I've also applied it to the front window...the only downside is the reduction in clarity in the window. Things just appear more mottled...not a huge deal but if you're sensitive to this just be aware.
We added a mylar sheet diamond plate pattern with contact adhesive to cover similar dings and protect as well. So far has been outside for several years without any signs of wear. Looks like the existing chrome diamond plate and meant to be there!
