Sink leaking

PeterTABPeterTAB Member Posts: 17

Noticed some water seeping out of the sink drain pipe on our new 2024 TAB 400. It leaks even when not running any water through, which makes me thinking there's a clog somewhere because there's no reason for there to be standing water there.

Contacted the dealer service tech and plan to take it apart tomorrow to see what's going on. Does anyone have any tips for how to address this? Almost no plumbing experience but will learn :)

Will post an update soon. Thanks!

@PeterTAB, it appears you have a "UniGuard" waterless P-trap installed as the drain pipe for your sink.  It appears very similar to the HepVO waterless P-trap I installed on my trailer.  I had thought nuCamp was installing the HepVO version, but maybe I am incorrect, or they made a change.

Regardless, I believe there is a seal (Cone Seal), whether rubber or plastic, that is located inside the plastic nut that threads to the sink drain at the bottom of your sink where the leak is located.  When you unscrew that nut, you will likely see it.  Search online for "UniGuard Parts" or "UniGuard Waterless P-Trap parts" and you should be able to find a new seal.  I'm not sure if you can find a compatible seal at your local hardware store, but you might try.  But, before you do that, remove the seal, clean it up a bit, replace it, and give it another try to see if that stops the leak.  I am assuming you have already tried tightening that nut a bit, but that often will resolve a minor leak.  Good luck!

P.S.  I'm sure you already know this, but your trailer is under warranty.  Therefore, if your dealer is nearby and you are uncomfortable fixing it yourself, you can take it to them.  It should be a quick and easy repair.  On the other hand, I am big into doing repairs myself if I can.  It is the best way to learn about and understand the various components of the trailer.

Thanks Bayliss! Yes it is a Unigard waterless trap.

I took it apart today and there is a gasket in there that looks to be in good condition. Nonetheless I put some thread sealer on the threads and screwed it back on. I hand tightened as much as I could and gave it another half turn with some oil filter pliers (mild regrets; it scratched up the plastic a bit)

Still leaks! Though this time I notice it's leaking from the top nut, not from the bottom, so I think the issue is with that connection. Unfortunately the cardboard washer is completely soaked and falling apart so I might just have to replace it and tighten it better.

@PeterTAB, I am not sure what the "gunk" is, unless it is some sort of plumbing putty, but it probably needs to be removed/cleaned up, and replaced.

The "gunk" looks unusual (at least to me) for a brand-new trailer.  I am not sure what the cardboard washer is that you have referred to, but the seal for the metal nut probably should be replaced.  The black rubber seal at the top appears to be stretched, so likely also needs to be replaced.  You should not need any pipe sealant on the threads for the plastic nut.  It should be a compression fitting, which does not involve using a pipe sealant.  Also, be sure not to overtighten plumbing fittings.  That can stretch or damage the seal.

You mentioned that the trailer is a new 2024, but are you the original owner?  If so, it may be a poor installation job by the factory.  I believe your best course of action is to take the trailer to the dealer and have them fix the leak under warranty.  If you prefer not to do that, re-contact the dealer and provide them with your photos so they can assist you with what needs to be done to resolve the leak.
