Trouble igniting Norcold on Propane mode

We are on a 5 week trip across country and the Norcold has been so finicky when igniting when in propane mode we gave up and went to using the cooler. We have tried the trick of lighing the stove first (to bring up the propane), to not lighting the stove, to holding in the igniter longer than the recommended 30 seconds (suggested by guy at Little Guy). Sometimes it lit but many times it didn't. Anybody have any other tricks that we should try? Thanks!!'

We've found it harder to light at altitudes over about 8,000 to 9,000.  We've managed to get it going but had to try several times.

Thanks for the hint 2canoe. I would love to have the altitude be the culprit however the trouble began all through the flat Midwest.

In one thread - have no clue which - someone found the ignighter was misaligned (wasn't close enough to light the propane). If I recall correctly, the ignighter can be accessed by taking the cooktop off. Once realigned, everything worked fine.

Others have reported that the Norcold is sensitive to being level. Side to side it needs to be +/- 3 degrees, and front to back +/- 6 degrees.  While troubleshooting issues with our Norcold being difficult to light and to keep running on propane, I discovered that the two way level we were using was very inaccurate front to back. Now, we use a different, more accurate level and the Norcold seems to be running better.

Our 2015 T@B came with a Norcold high altitude kit installed,  did not experience any problems last year out west on our 6 week trip.  Nor did we have any problems this year going out to Moab.

Some have found the thermocouple had jiggled loose, as well. First, make sure you have it level and that you have a little battery left before pulling the stove, though.

Just back in cell service after 5 days in Rocky MT NP- where, by the way, at 8,000 ft and after 7 hours of driving, it lit fine

Spruce 1 mentioned level use. I agree there. My Norcold wouldn't work well when I first tried it. Actually caused the counter to get hot and made a lot of noise?!! Anyway the T@B was not level at the time. I leveled it and it worked great!
