202X Floor Construction Details ?

MuttonChopsMuttonChops Member Posts: 1,724
Background:

Around 2018 nüCamp started using a Composite Style Floor construction.  This design has an unknown material, black color, (plastic/resin like) 1/8 inch'ish layer, 1+ inch of white high density foam, another layer of the black stuff, then the vinyl floor covering.  There is aluminum tube framing around the floor edges and at least one cross-frame member.

A couple of years ago nüCamp stated they were changing to an Azdel Floor Composite.  Perhaps replacing the 'black material' with Azdel?  With Azdel being lighter and maybe stronger as the 'black material' can/does break along the cross-frame bars over time.

Question:

What is today's floor composite construction cross-section?
Does anyone have from nüCamp information?
Any pictures of the floor cross-section?

In 2022 (? 2023 models) they started using Transcore.  I don’t think we have ever determined the layering of the latest flooring.

Here's a 2020 cross-section to compare if someone can post the new floor cross-section.

It appears that TransCore is the product that NuCamp has adopted. Transcore has a NuCamp testimonial on their website: https://ridgecorp.com/ridge-corporation-products/transcore/#

@boathealer Your 2021 core looks similar to my 2020. Looks to be compressed and has me questioning the 1/2" plywood? Maybe meant 1/8"?

That high density foam in the 2023 looks much more stable that the previous Styrofoam. Wonder what the insulation difference is? Probably not much.

Thanks All, knowing it is Ridge Corp TransCore is helpful.

Hopefully, we will learn more details on actual usage . . .
    a) Assume floors are now one piece (like Airstream TransCore) which eliminates the
older floor material breaking & leaking cross-member failures.
    b) TransCore is said to be stronger than equal thickness plywood , , ,
so have the cross-member supports been removed?
    c)  TranCore has improved screw retention so has the Aluminum Tube outer frame
         been eliminated.
    d)  What thickness is nuCamp using and what's the new R-Factor and lbs/in load rating

All stuff we may or may not learn over time
    .

nüCamp comment on TransCore usage in a slide-in camper review article:

    First hand core samples:

    2021 -

The 2021 cross-section is very different than my 2018 320S Floor.
    nuCamp's first go at improving the floor composite . . . .

    First hand core samples:

    2023 -

The 2023 cross-section tracks well with the Ridge TransCore (limited) literature, the upper/lower fiber panels are fiberglass (like) mats and resin.

@Boathealer - - - What is the thickness of the High Density Foam ?

TransCore datasheet has an R-Factor of 1.44 for an ~ half inch thick panel.

    Foam is approx. 15/16"

It's 1/2".  Got torn up with hole saw.  You can see the rest of the thickness above the arrowhead.

Interesting. The Styrofoam and everything else looks about the same thickness and material as mine except for that plywood. I'm sure that there are difference that I'm missing.
