Hubby and I are picking up our new Outback Saturday (can hardly wait!). His big V8 p/u truck will pull it easily, but will my Jeep Wrangler (6 cyc) be enough?
Wont be a problem. Some even pull with 4 cyl.. Lots of Jeeps in the T@B world. As long as the hitch ball is 16'' from the ground, you'll be good to go. The ball dim. might be some diff., not sure of the Outback, but someone will have that info., if not the dealer. Enjoy, and you will!!! Jim
I used to have a 2-door Wrangler but replaced with a Nissan Xterra to pull a T@B Outback. the 2-door Wrangler has only 2,000lb towing capacity. 4-door has the exact same engine, but the towing capacity is 3,500 due to the longer wheel base. But more than that, I thought the tongue weight would be the real problem.
If your Jeep is 2-door, you will need to keep the weight of everything really low. You will more likely go over the capacity.
You also need to check the GVWR which is more important than towing capacity/tongue weight capacity. I went to one of the Cat Scale places to weigh my truck with people/full tank of gas just in case. My Xterra is rated for 5,000lb/500lb, but after weighing with just two people in it, it was more like 4,600lb/420lb.
I am pretty sure you won't feel anything towing a T@B even though you got the 2-door model, but insurance company can deny your claim when something happens just because you were pulling something that is over the towing capacity. It also could void the vehicle's warranty.
2005 VW Jetta TDI wagon, 1.9L diesel. T@B follows beautifully, no tail wagging here. Only issue is wind drag at highway speeds; mpg really suffers at anything over 55mph.
Mkbrakefield, has a jeep with a v6, should be ok. Just said i have heard of pulling with a 4cyl.. Probably not ideal, mountains,it would be a bit much. jim
I am picking up a TAB 320 later on in the week. First caravan so a bit nervous. I shall be towing it behind a Saab 96 V4 from the 1970s. I think it will be cool combination with the curves of the car and the Tab. Here is a picture of the car. I has a 1500 v4 engine so I hope this will be plenty enogh power for cruising along at about 60mph. No world carvan speed record attempts for this baby. Here is picture of the car for those that cannot remember what it looks like!
We started out with a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and did fine on our 12 day trip. We did feel like we were putting a lot of demand on a 15 year old vehicle. We did some pretty extensive research to meet our needs towing, backcountry skiing, and wilderness canoeing and it came down to th Xterra and the 4Runner. When we found a two year old 4Runner with low miles and a good price we jumped on it. Last weekend we did a 4 hour test run and I think we are going to be really happy. A couple of things I really like are the backup camera with little lines to help guide you and the wider body so the side mirrors cover well without extenders.
Ditto, dp, VERY sweet car. Is your T@B red trimmed? Doesn't matter. There will be a car-T@B competition on which is more cool (or peeps will just look at the big picture and just ooooooo and ahhhhhhh). Picts required when you pick up the camper!!

I will be picking up our Tab 320 on Friday with a bit of luck. No, the Tab is not red but I quite like the plain aluminium minimal look. Have now managed to find an original Saab 96 tow bar and I willl be getting this fitted to "Ingrid" in the next couple of weeks along with electrics for the plug. So as soon as we are on the road I will put a picture up on the forum with the Tab and Ingrid against the backdrop of the English countryside in Spring. Wonderful!!!
boo, I have your fraternal twin - 2015 GMC Canyon 4x4 V6 - same tow pkg and all. Pulls the T@B wonderfully.
Now, my next question is if I add additional cabling support to the tailgate, how much weight can the tailgate handle in the dead center? I can get an automated motorcycle ramp to get my 2016 FatBoy Special in the truck, but need to know if I have to add more support to the tailgate itself because the rear wheel will be resting on the tailgate.

2009 Explorer Sport Trac, 4.6 V8, awesome tow vehicle, but no longer sold. (Up to 7K tow capacity) (Just went over 100K miles) Unless Ford comes out with a mid-size truck again, my next will have to be a F150. Do not want an Explorer or Escape, as I want a true truck bed to put the dirty stuff in.

I've had 2.4L 4-cylinder Frontiers. Never pulled a T@B with one, but don't think I would want to based on my experience towing smaller trailers.
Nissan 4 cyl under the bonnet tows like a dream

I hope yours is the 4-door model.
