First Walmart ONP

it must be spring! Today I drove across Missouri in light rain, and tonight the time changes, so spring is here !
it is my first Walmart ONP, in Sullivan MO. The store personnel was very nice when I called to confirm they still allow ONP. But, it felt just a tad weird when we were the only campers here.
We are settled in. Shades down.  Elsie and are just discussing who sleeps under the shelf. My other dog is on a doggy play date.  Nite all!

I to like to over night at Walmart  when other RV are around. Many times by morning you are not alone. We generally park around the outer perimeter or near an island if available in the open.

And, at 6 am in the rain, we were cozy, but still alone. Went in and purchased a couple of things, glad for the whole experience. Isn't she cute?

Have been making plans for our trip west checking for ONP at Walmart as an option. Spoke with a delightful woman who answered the phone at the Walmart off Rt. 80 in North Platte, Neb. who told me she "would leave the light on for me."

I took a nap there (North Platte), but probably wouldn't spend the night there. There are worse neighborhoods and there are better neighborhoods. I ended up spending the night in Kearney and it was a little further from the interstate, still not that far and a better neighborhood. Applebees with free Wifi is right next to it. The one on the SW side of Omaha, in Gretna is also very nice.

Check out the municiple campgrounds in the smaller towns off the freeway 2-4 miles - many were free for a few days in Nebraska. For instance, right before Grand Junction is Aurora with a nice little municiple campground (electric and muni wifi) - no formal fee just a donation if you choose - only 3-4 miles north of the freeway. I held up there for three days of rain.

So sweet to see how you travel with your pup(s).

We have four dogs. The two Doodles are great companions and I especially think they would love to go with me. I also want to take our Great Pyrenees and our Golden, but they may have to stay at home with the hubs.... unless I could find a way to manage all four. First - I need to completely cover all surfaces with hair and drool repellent...LOL

Your T@b looks cozy there in the WM lot. under the light. Seems a good safety idea to choose that sort of spot -- and near a grassy place too. Plus - convenient for running inside to get a few provisions.

Does your dog stay in the T@b or the car when you go inside WM?

    Safe travels!

There's a Super Center on I-80 in Lexington, NE, that is very popular with trucks and RV's.  I stayed one night there on the way to The Black Hills and one night coming back this past summer.  Since there were so many there, I didn't even ask.  There were several there both times.  Caution:  If you walk a dog here, be aware that all the grassy areas are full of sand burrs.  Not too unusual for almost anywhere out on the plains.

I usually put the dogs in crates if I am going away from the T@b.. Especially the young one.

I'll be traveling x-country this summer and for just stopping overnight, I'm looking for truck stops.  There was one I ran across that had an area for RV's, and even a dump and water on the way out.  They also have showers.  Another idea I had was Casinos.  They usually have alot of security inside and outside.

There are a few good phone apps for ONP. Not only WM but Cracker Barrel, Flying J, and other places will permit ONP. I had lousy experience at WM in Alabaster, Ala. The stink woke us up at 2am.  Smelled like burning plastic or trash, also very noisey and on a slope. Prattville, Ala was great. Don't over look the interstate reststops. Most have 24 hour security. The tractor trailers can be noisy though.
