Has anyone tried to do a side storage lid?  It looks nice...

Yes, actually added piano hinges on both sides (along with gas struts to hold them open).  The approach worked out great for me.  In my case (a DM), there was an inch overhang before the storage lid so I didn't need to deal with trying to hang hinge from the wall.  If you lid goes to edge, I'd trim an inch off the lid as mentioned in the video.  I attached short lid edge to 1 by 1 and tied to wall edges.  Has held with no issues for at least a couple of years now....

Any worry about abrasion on the bottom of the cushion against the hinges?

Not a piano hinge as long as all of the screws are seated flat.

Not really.  Others have done this too.  My cushion doesn't move around, and in any case, I could put a protective strip on the underside of the cushion..

Actually I'm thinking of doing this on the other side.  I also might look further into that double hinge idea for the back one.  I hear though that the 2016 versions changed some things, making it more difficult...

TerryV6 - coming up under an open window - Been 21 months and I still haven't trained myself. Surprised I don't have a bunch of permanent dents.

A good reason... One less item to lift up and place either on the floor or on the other side of the camper..

This is the best reason. Now to get that new table saw assembled so I can make those straight cuts (yeah, I'm spoiled with the larger tools).

We thought perhaps of buying one of those cheap foam tubes the kids use in the pool to hit each other with.  Then cut to length and cut a slit from one end to the other.  Push it on window edge.  We'd only need one for the door side....

Ya, thought of that and decided - too ugly, I'll wear a hat and cover up the dents :-)

I just have a saber saw, but a piano hinge hides a lot of sins...

Has anyone found a way to limit the back cabinet doors from swinging out too far and hitting the window or screen ?

TerryV6 - Two screws and a piece of string? :-)
  • TerryV6TerryV6 Member Posts: 1,092
Ha!  Not quite what I had in mind....   Thanks though... Some of my home fixes in the past "have" involved duct tape...

I'm thinking some kind of el bracket or door thingy that will keep the outside ones from swinging more than 90 degrees...

That would be what we do.  Easy one dollar fix.
