There are 3 wires on the one I chose because I wanted the read out to light up. One wire is positive 12v one wire goes to a ground the third wire is the probe that goes inside the frig. There are gauges that have there own batteries but the read out is not lighted but they are hard to read unless they are at eye level. The power source is located right behind the gauge. I installed an on off switch so I can turn it off at night.
Ok Dale, That cinches it, I'm coming over to check out your mods! Where did you find a Radio Shack local? They closed the one that was up here on my side of town. [Darn it!]

@ericnliz do a search on Amazon for "on/off rocker switch" and take your pick-- plenty to choose from. The two Radio Shacks around here are pretty useless any more. In fact, come to think of it, the small one closed and the only one left is in the mall. The chances of me going into the mall are slim to none

Verna, Just talked to Dale, and I'm going to head his way shortly. ['Gonna pick his brain on some of his mods] I'm personally not a "mall rat" either, so I can totally relate. You get me out shopping for anything, you've made quite the accomplishment! Drives my dear wife crazy sometimes!

Loosen this screw. Then tuck the probe and wire under the metal strip. I used gorilla tape to secure the wire in the groove under the shelf. Any small on off switch will work. I already had a small push button switch on hand.
@Photomom - I see it comes with two sensors, do you find that you use both or just one? And does it have the ability to turn off display or does it display all the time? Thanks!

I put the 2nd sensor in the propane/battery tub and it give me the outside temp. While I do have the diamond plate tub, it does reflect the excessive heat away and gives me an accurate temp, I do not know if the plastic tubs will give the same result.

I use one sensor in the fridge and one in the T@B cabin. Was not able to find a similar device with only one sensor.
