Filtered Water

Has anyone added a water filter system to the cold water supply to the kitchen sink for safe drinking water all the time either from the storage tank or from camp supply?  I am looking at one that will remove cryptosporidium as well as making the water taste, smell better from Culligan RV Water Filter RV-EZ-3 with a level 3 cartridge. It is an under the sink filter system and should illiminate any worries about safe drinking water.

I saw a thread where someone did it with, I think a PUR water filter. Now I just have to remember WHERE I saw it!

We use a Pur dispenser. Fits nicely to the right of the stove.

Photomom, do you also have a filter on your city water hose? I've seen some Camco one's in pics. That way it is filtered for the shower and sink. Just wondering.

We use a Brita pitcher that is kept in the fridge.  I've run into some pretty bad water in places, but often don't stay long enough to bother hooking up so the pitcher seems to work well for our needs.

Homebodyatheart, yes, you should filter any incoming city water to protect your plumbing, hose and regulator.  Sharon

Yes, we do, the Camco one. That's to keep schmutz out of the plumbing. The Pur one is for taste. The dispenser (or a pitcher) has a couple advantages over a faucet mounted filter. You can move it outside if that's where you're eating, and you can use it if you're dry camping.

We use a Pur water filter (just like the picture) and love it. Do you empty it when driving or does it not shift around in the refrigerator. I know that with a Pur water filter you are supposed to alw

Oops. Some how it cut some of my comment off. So here's the rest- Our water filters are supposed to always have the bottom end of the filter in water so emptying it for travel would not be ideal. However, I'd be concerned that it might shift or turn over or even push the refrig. door open and spill leaving a puddle for hours before discovered. Do you stabilize it in some way?

TaBulated, you could empty the pitcher and put the filter in a ziploc baggie to keep it moist. I know that the Britta's are charcoal filters plus whatever else. Unless it was empty for days on end, I think I'd just empty the pitcher and refill at the next stop. You could always fix up a velcro strap or something inside the fridge to hold it in place during travel, too.

There is also a "locking pin" on a chain on the side of the fridge door that I engage every time before taking off. Seems to work (has never failed) even with a fridge full of heavy items.

I have never had my water pitcher fall over in transit.  The door of the fridge has a pin that locks it closed, so everything stays in fairly well.  Little stuff does get tossed around, but my water pitcher or growlers have never fallen over.

Thank you Homebodyatheart, RollingLagrima and Cyclonic all the information helps with planning. We are picking up our 2017 T@B from a dealer in February so I don't have it yet to figure some things out - like that there is a locking pin on the refrig. Also good to know the pitcher has never turned over.  I will definitely plan on bringing the water pitcher. I'm picky about the taste of water :)

I use a Camco filter on my hose. I highly recommend it.

I was hooked up to a water well this past weekend. The well water pump malfunctioned and the water became full of silt or fine sand. My almost new Camco filter did not work at all. If it can't filter that then what exactly does it filter?

I've never used one, but see them all over campgrounds attached to all kinds of rvs. This, from Camco..."Camco TastePURE RV Water Filter with Flexible Hose Protector reduces bad taste, odor, chlorine and sediment in drinking water with a 20 micron sediments filter". I am guessing your silt/sand was larger than 20 microns?!?

Not exactly sure what you mean by "If it can't filter....".  If you mean no water passed through it it was doing exactly what it intended to do.  It filled up with silt and sand it was filtering out and clogged up.  The flow through a filter drops from the day you start using it as fills with filtered out material.
